“Singletracks are similar to the World Cup ones”

The current Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén winner, David Valero, arrives to this YoPRO Catalunya Bike Race after achieve a 5th position in the last World Cups and fighting against the best cyclists in the world. The four times XCO Spanish Champion will debut in his first and he’s ready to give it his all.

  • First time that we’ll be seeing you in Puigcerdà, first time competing in the YoPRO Catalunya Bike Race. What attracts you from this race?

I’ve been meaning to participate in the YoPRO Catalunya Bike Race, but due to my schedule it’s been difficult. The tracks in which this event passes by is one of the things that caught my attention. There are singletracks very similar to the ones in the World Cup.

  • A fifth place in the Gächen World Cup. How are you physically?

I think I’m in great shape, not at a 100%, but I can fight to do great. In Grächen I made a few mistakes during the race that I paid at the end, but I had very good legs. I will definitely return to this beautiful race with the lesson well learned.

  • You are participating in a competition, important for the UCI points and for the Olympic Games around the corner, right?

Yes, we’ll try to gain as many points as possible. I don’t know if I will be able to make it work, because only three competitions count and I’ve already done four. I will try to get as many points as possible.

  • What’s your objective for this YoPRO Catalunya Bike Race?

I have the intention to fight for the GC, that will be very tough, and if we see things getting complicated we’ll fight to win some stages.

  • Can this event be a good excuse to finish your 2019 in good terms?

It is not the kind of competition I usually compete in, but any type of victory is always good news for me and mi team.
