Aleix Espargaró: "I expect a really hard race but also very fun"

The MotoGP rider ensures that finishing in the top 50 would be a success

Aleix Espargaró has been active for fourteen years in the competitive world of motorcycle speed championships. As he has accumulated sports experience, his habits have changed and for a year and a half his physical training is based on a 70% riding a bike. After participating in two occasions in Andalucía Bike Race presented by Shimano and to debut with a meritorious position 66 in La Rioja Bike Race presented by Shimano 2017, now Espargaró will debut in the first edition of GAES Catalunya Bike Race presented by Shimano.

"I really want to participate in this race, I feel very good physically. I know more the area of La Cerdanya, but I expect a really hard race but also very fun, because it is with to the Andalusian and La Rioja races, one of the three great races in the world of the Spanish MTB", assures the Moto GP rider.

Espargaró, like Purito Rodríguez, is entering this world from the hand of one of the best teachers that can be: José Antonio Hermida. "It's a ten competing but above all as a person, I'm very lucky to get along with him and to teach me how to improve the technique on the bike", thanks Aleix.

The Aprilia Racing Team rider knows some details that the participants of the GAES Catalunya Bike Race presented by Shimano will face and assures that "all Mountain Bikers will enjoy a lot of both the views and the varied paths and tracks". The area of Bellver is well known by Espargaró, since during his childhood he visited his grandfather in Bellver de Cerdanya. "In winter, when everything is snowy in Andorra, we go down to train in this area and the truth is that it's a pleasure to be able to compete on paths I know", explains Aleix.

"At the moment I face the MTB as part of my physical training plan for MotoGP, but when I retire I know that I will want to compete in another sport and the MTB is a very good option", the driver adds, before continuing: "If I continue training at this level I believe that in about 5 years I will be in good shape to compete in this sport, so far, for this edition of GAES Catalunya Bike Race presented by Shimano I set the goal to be among the top fifty classifieds".

The weekend of September 29th and 30th and October 1st we will know if he achieves his goal but Aleix is clear that he and all participants have to focus on having fun and enjoying the whole organization and landscapes. "It is important to know how to find a group of cyclists of similar level to yours so that the stages become shorter. This is a very demanding sport with rhythm changes and technical challenges in some falls, so it is very important that everyone knows how to keep concentration at all times".
