Ever Alejandro Gómez and Naima Madlen STAGE1 winners

A fast and hard stage with a long climb to Niula that has marked distances.

The fourth edition of Catalunya Bike Race has taken its first start at noon this Friday, October 1, with a stage of 45 kilometres and 1,320 meters of climbing  in which more than 500 cyclists have participated.

From 9:00 a.m.  all the registered riders went to the Puigcerdà Sports Centre to collect their race bibs and take the compulsory antigen test -as a Covid-19 prevention measure- to start the STAGE 1 at 2:00 p.m.

The weather was fine on the opening day of the CBR, which featured a 10-kilometre climb to the Guils Fontanera cross-country ski resort. Before, after passing through the villages in the area, the Niula trap: a wall with a gradient of around 21% that allowed the main names to put a lot of distance between themselves and their pursuers.

At the top of Guils, Cristofer Bosque was one of the few to hold the pace of the leader of the Elite Men's category, Ever Alejandro Gómez, at the top of Guils; an order that was maintained after a technical and demanding descent, with Ismael Ventura completing the podium.

As for the Elite Women competitors, the favourite Naima Madlen asserted her leading role after the victory in La Rioja Bike Race presented by Prielli and won with almost two minutes ahead of the second classified, Michialina Ziolkowska, and more than four minutes ahead of the third, Sonia Quiroga.

Nissan SUPER STAGE will start tomorrow, Saturday 2 October 2021, and will be the longest of the competition. The event will be tough and hard work, with a direct track start towards Guils Fontanera and the Refugi de la Feixa, reaching the highest point at an altitude of over 2,200 metres on wide tracks with good rolling that will allow us to get our ideal pace to face this long marathon stage.
